Chant de lune

Presented at the opening of "Les Quatre Saisons", alternating with "Colonne", this solo is the second stage in a series of curtain-raisers in which Régine Chopinot wishes to confront her dance with poetic texts from different countries and cultures. After the Japanese poem that inspired "Colonne", it was an encounter with musician Ravi Prasad that gave rise to the idea of a new creation based on two classical Indian texts, odes to the sun and the moon (Théâtre de la Ville program, January-February 1999).Régine Chopinot prefers to describe this piece as a duo, so present is the musician, often standing and sometimes seated at her side, playing the flute or singing. Ravi Prasad is an unclassifiable musician. Based in Toulouse since 1985, Ravi Prasad hails from Kerala in southern India. He likes to mix different musical styles (jazz, electro-acoustic, contemporary music, Carnatic chant), and in addition to his concerts, he offers professional voice training courses. He has collaborated with Régine Chopinot on two other projects: "Entre deux" - his own musical show directed by the choreographer - and "Anh Mat"." "Chant de lune once again offers me the possibility of a dialogue between dance and a musician. A dialogue between solitude and duet. I'm looking for that space, between sharing and resistance, that connects me to his singing, to the text he's chanting, to his music. Choreographically, the energy is more outgoing than in "Colonne", with the challenge of avoiding any Indian connotations, and I've imagined a dynamic light that outlines the precise, geometric spaces."
