In Chopinot's work, stage presence frequently takes shape within the shadows, as if the body were emanating from them, spawning its own singular radiance.
When asked about the origin of her choreographic images, Chopinot makes a curious gesture: she points to the back of her skull. Commenting on the role of the projector in cinema, psychoanalyst Christian Metz describes it as "a device that the spectator has behind him, at the back of his head, in the exact place where, phantasmatically, the focus of all vision is located". Projected images are perceived as if they came from the very gaze of the person receiving them.
