"Giap Than" ("Year of the Monkey" in Vietnamese) was created in 2004 for the Royal Theatre compound within the Hué Citadel. The play was adapted for a tour of Indonesia and Malaysia in June 2005. In April 2006, a change in the cast and performances in Vietnam inaugurated a new version of "Giap Than" (...)". "Régine Chopinot and Ballet Atlantique regularly collaborate with the Opera Ballet and the Higher School of Dance of Vietnam. (...) "Giap Than" is a new version of "Giap Than".) "Giap Than" is a mature piece for six of the Opéra-Ballet dancers who have accompanied Régine Chopinot since 2000, and whom the choreographer has led to the threshold of great freedom. Perfectly trained classical dancers at the Ecole Supérieure d'Danse in Hanoi, they are now also polymorphous contemporary dancers, capable of making several languages and body memories coincide or clash at will.Chopinot plunges her combative angels into the waves of an immense canvas made up of a thousand banners collected across the cities of Vietnam, whose slogan culture is gradually tasting the commercial fortnight. As she often does, the choreographer interweaves a love of memory, the pleasure of provocation and an insatiable appetite for novelty.
